Naturalization record books, 1842-1903.

In these volumes the clerk transcribed personal and other data from the declarations of intention and petitions for naturalization submitted by aliens. Information from the declarations, which cover the period March 19, 1842, to March 24, 1903, includes the location of the court (to October 28, 1854), date, name, residence of the declarant, his age and country of birth, and the name of the foreign potenate to whom allegiance would be renounced. Information from the petitions, which cover the period March 29, 1842, to April 22, 1902, includes the location of the court and name of the presiding judge, date, name and residence of the petitioner, his age and country of birth, date when and court where the declaration of intention was filed, and name of the foreign potenate to whom allegiance was renounced. Service in the U.S. Army is indicated on some petitions filed immediately after the Civil War, and names of witnesses are given occasionally after September, 1881.
